CHELMSFORD LIONS CLUB
HISTORY
Chelmsford Lions Club was chartered on December11, 1969, sponsored by Sudbury North Lions.
The current Lions Club is the second club to be chartered in Chelmsford, the first having relinquished its charter in the 60’s.
Lions Albert Definney & Abbe Vaillancourt was also members of the original Lions Club and subsequently joined the present club.
Chelmsford Lions sponsored the Azilda Lions in 1971, The Killarney Lions in 1980 and the Chelmsford Lioness in 1978.
Proud to have accepted, amongst our ranks, transferring members actively involved and can boast as having had 2 District Governor (Peter Vanderhenne, Roger Brideau), Deputy District Governor (George Hervieux), Regional & Zone Chairman (Marcel Goupil) and Zone Chairman (Dave Filiatrault, Al Definney & Armand Dequanne.
The Club currently consists of 31 members with an excellent attendance record.
During our 30 plus years of existence, the club has maintained its original promise to enhance the quality of life of the less fortunate, the blind, the deaf, the handicapped as well as others in the community who require assistance.
Western Days was started in 1979, by our Lions Club, under the Chairmanship of Lion George Hervieux. With the Co-operation of the Chelmsford Merchants it grew into the great fair that we have to-day. The Parade is now the largest in Northern Ontario. This year should be the best ever.
The club has also supported education, recreation, sports, health care, the elderly and the youths of our community.
When referring to our activities and donations over the last 30 plus years, it is apparent that the club has well demonstrated that our members have continued working towards the goals and objectives originally set by our charter members.
To this end, would like to take this opportunity of recognizing past and present members of the Chelmsford Lions Club, our spouses for their continued support, the community for the relentless support, all of which has made it possible for t
he Chelmsford Lions Club to continue serving in the fashion we are accustomed to.
